Setting Up Coilover Springs
SPRING LENGTH SHOULD MATCH SHOCK TRAVEL. EXAMPLE, 10" SPRINGS GO ON 10" TRAVEL SHOCKS.
IF THE SPRING RATE CHOSEN IS CORRECT YOU WILL ONLY NEED ½ " OF PRELOAD ON THE SPRINGS.
INSTALL THE SPRINGS, TIGHTEN THE SPANNER NUT UNTIL IT CONTACTS TH E SPRING, THEN
PROCEED ½ ".
THE SPRING LOCKOUT SHOULD BE INSTALLED ½ TO 1" FROM THE TOP SPRING RETAINER. (SPANNER
NUT) YOU WANT TO USE ALL YOUR TRAVEL. RUNNING IT LOWER WILL LOCK OUT THE UPPER SPRING
SOONER.
IF YOU HAVE TWO DIFFERENT SPRING RATES, THE HEAVIER SPRING GOES TO THE BOTTOM.
ONCE SHOCK AND SPRINGS ARE INSTALLED ON CAR, ATTACH A ZIP TIE SNUGLY TO THE SHAFT
WHERE IT ENTERS THE SHOCK BODY. THEN WEIGHT THE CAR AS YOU WOULD IN THE DESERT,
YOU, YOUR FAMILY, GAS, ETC. THEN UN-WEIGHT THE CAR (TAKE OUT WHAT YOU PUT ON) AND
MEASURE THE DISTANCE FROM THE ZIP TIE TO THE BODY OF THE SHOCK. THIS IS YOUR SAG.
IT SHOULD BE 25 - 30 % OF YOUR TRAVEL. IT’S A "FEEL" THING. YOU ALSO HAVE TO CONSIDER
OTHER WEIGHT ISSUES LIKE ENGINE PLACEMENT AND WEIGHT.
